City Council Approves $30M for Green Retrofit Loans

Calgary City Council has approved an additional $30 million in borrowing to expand its Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP). This program helps homeowners make eco-friendly upgrades like installing solar panels or improving energy efficiency.

Unlike traditional rebate programs, CEIP operates as a self-supported debt model. This means the loans are repaid through property taxes over time, making it a long-term, sustainable investment for the city.

The goal of the expansion is to encourage more residents to adopt green technologies, reduce emissions, and contribute to a cleaner, more energy-efficient Calgary.
