Calgary Council Considers $30M to Expand Clean Energy Loans

(CH)

The City of Calgary is seeking $30M in additional borrowing to extend the Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) for two more years and include non-residential properties. Without approval, the program may end once its initial $15M funding runs out.

Since 2023, CEIP has supported 350+ homes with energy-efficient upgrades like insulation, windows, and solar panels. Expanding the program could benefit 800 more homes, saving $290,000 in annual energy costs and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 65%.

The proposal heads to a public hearing on April 8.
