Calgary has approved the sale of five city-owned land parcels at below-market prices to four non-profit housing providers, enabling the construction of 387 affordable homes. This initiative, part of the city's housing strategy, includes priority given to Indigenous organizations, with Siksika Off-Reserve Affordable Housing and the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary among the successful applicants. Mayor Jyoti Gondek emphasized the importance of addressing the housing needs of Indigenous communities, and the $29-million contribution from the Housing Accelerator Fund will help expedite development. The proceeds from the sales will be reinvested into further housing initiatives.
