The newly formed Calgary Affordable Housing Foundation (CAHF) has launched with an ambitious plan to build 140 new affordable housing units. The foundation aims to address Calgary’s growing housing crisis and ease pressure on low-income residents struggling to find stable homes.
CAHF CEO Mike Meldrum highlighted a significant gap in supply, noting that Calgary currently adds about 300 affordable housing units per year—far below the estimated annual need of at least 2,500 units. This shortage has created what Meldrum described as a “dire need” for solutions.
The launch of CAHF marks a coordinated effort to scale up affordable housing development across the city, working alongside partners like HomeSpace Society to increase access and support for vulnerable Calgarians.
